Alumni Interview: How Chamber’s Interior Design Program Inspired My Unique Style

When I reflect on my career as an interior designer, I often trace my unique style back to my time at Chamber’s Interior Design Program. The program didn’t just teach me the technical skills I needed to succeed; it also provided me with the space to explore my creativity and develop a style that felt distinctly my own.
Inspiration from Diverse Design Influences
During my time at Chamber, I was introduced to a wide range of design philosophies and styles—from classical architecture to modern minimalism and everything in between. What was most inspiring was the freedom to experiment and find the aesthetic that resonated with me. I was encouraged to break away from traditional design molds and embrace my personal preferences, whether that was mixing materials, playing with unconventional color schemes, or blending old and new elements.
My mentor at Chamber played a significant role in helping me identify what set my style apart. They encouraged me to take risks, push boundaries, and never shy away from my own creative instincts. It was this type of nurturing environment that allowed me to feel confident in developing a signature style.
Crafting a Unique Design Philosophy
What I gained from Chamber wasn’t just knowledge about design; it was a broader understanding of the storytelling potential that interior design holds. I began to see each space as a canvas—a place where I could weave together various design elements to create a narrative. Whether I was working on residential or commercial projects, I strived to bring a unique sense of identity into every space.
One of the key takeaways from the program was learning to balance form with function. While my style was undeniably bold and contemporary, I also learned the importance of practicality. The emphasis on user-centered design at Chamber shaped my approach to creating spaces that not only look beautiful but also serve the needs of those who use them.
A Foundation for Growth
The interior design program at Chamber provided me with the confidence to showcase my style to the world. My portfolio, which was heavily influenced by the principles and lessons I learned at Chamber, became my calling card. It helped me gain clients who were drawn to my distinctive approach and my ability to blend creativity with functionality.
Today, my design style is characterized by clean lines, bold contrasts, and a keen attention to detail. I continue to build on the foundations laid at Chamber, constantly refining my style while staying true to the principles that made me fall in love with interior design in the first place.
